A beautiful family that went through fire together and came out stronger
Cần Thơ, Vietnam — In a story that has touched millions across Vietnam, a young husband proved that true love sometimes means giving up everything to stand by the person you love most.
Phan Quỳnh Như and Bùi Kỳ Ân, both 29 years old, had their dream wedding postponed multiple times due to COVID-19 lockdowns. In 2021, they finally tied the knot in a simple ceremony with only the groom’s parents present.
A New Mother’s Silent Struggle
When their first child was born in February 2022, joy quickly turned into overwhelming pressure for Như. Living far from family and running two small businesses alone while her husband worked long hours in a government job, she carried the full weight of parenting and household duties by herself.
Four months after giving birth, feeling completely exhausted and isolated, Như made an emotional decision — she shaved her head completely as a way to release everything she had been holding inside.

The Most Beautiful Response Imaginable
When Kỳ Ân came home and saw his wife’s new look, he didn’t say a word. He simply rode to the barber… and came back with his head shaved exactly the same.
“I just want to match you. Now we’re a real pair.”
— Bùi Kỳ Ân
That simple act broke down every wall. For the first time, Như opened up about her struggles. Kỳ Ân immediately took her to a doctor, where she was diagnosed with postpartum depression.
He Chose Family Over Career
The doctor made it clear: recovery would be much easier with constant support at home. So Kỳ Ân made the biggest decision of his life — he quit his stable government job to become a full-time father and his wife’s strongest supporter.

Life wasn’t easy after that. Their son was later diagnosed with a serious kidney condition, money was tight, and there were many arguments. But they never gave up on each other.
They made one unbreakable rule: no matter how hard the day was, they would never go to bed angry or distant.
From Pain to Beautiful New Beginnings
Today, the family has welcomed their second child — a healthy baby girl. With her husband by her side every day, Như says this time has been completely different.
Their milk tea business is now thriving. Kỳ Ân proudly stays home with the children while Như runs the shop, and they couldn’t be happier.

A Love That Inspires the Nation
Their story went viral when Như shared a photo of them side by side with shaved heads — smiling through the storm. Millions were moved by this quiet, silent but powerful act of love.
In a world full of grand gestures, this couple shows us that real love is choosing each other every single day — even when it’s hard, even when it costs everything.
“We went through fire together,” Như says with a bright smile, “and we came out shining brighter than ever.”
